Buildings & Grounds


The Building & Grounds Committee is responsible for the maintenance, repair and facilities use of the physical property of the Church. This group handles general upkeep and maintenance, contracted services and major improvements. A major responsibility of this committee is to maintain the historic integrity of the Church

Cemetery

The Cemetery Committee is responsible for the financial and operational oversight of Union Presbyterian Churches Riverside Cemetery. Members of the committee include the cemetery Business Manager and UPC Finance Manager.

Finance & Endowment


The Finance & Endowment (F&E) Committee is under the jurisdiction of session and has the following primary responsibilities:

Responsible for handling the financial affairs of the church. This includes conducting the stewardship campaign, generating/tracking the church budget and auditing the financial records of the church treasurer to make sure they are in order.

Oversee the management of the Union Presbyterian Church endowment funds.

Review/approve all distributions from the endowments and insure that they meet the appropriate guidelines set forth by the contributor.

The committee consists of 2 members from session, 2 members from the Board of Deacons and 4 members elected by the congregation. Two representatives from the congregation shall be elected each year to serve a 2-year term. No person shall serve on the committee for more than 6 consecutive years without allowing a year to elapse before the next term starts. The Endowment Funds Treasurer (EFT) and the EFT Assistant are permanent members of the committee and are appointed by session.

Meetings are scheduled throughout the year to conduct committee business and to evaluate requests for financial support. A committee report is given regularly at each session meeting. F&E expenditures above $500 must also be approved by session.

The committee has the responsibility to interface with the investment professionals for the purpose of communicating our goals, objectives, policies and disbursement plans from our endowments. In addition, the committee meets annually with the financial institutions, if required, to review the performance of our investments.

Nominating & Scholarships


Nominating Committee

The Union Presbyterian Church Nominating Committee has the responsibility of filling positions for Session, Board of Deacons and the Finance & Endowment Committee. The Session consists of twelve Church members, each serving a period of three years. (Four members are elected each year.) The Board of Deacons is comprised of twelve individuals who also serve three years. (Four members are elected each year.) Two members of the Congregation are elected to serve on the Finance & Endowment Committee.

Scholarship Fund

The Union Presbyterian Church is blessed to have funds provided by members specifically designated for scholarships. Currently the Scholarship Fund receives money from the Union Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund (funds donated by Harriet R. Darmody, Kenneth L. White and Ethelyn I. Hewitt), the Union Presbyterian Church College Scholarship Fund and other donations.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for students who plan to continue their education and who have been graduated from high school. Eligible educational activities shall include full or part-time enrollment at an accredited college or university, technical or trade school, nursing school, or in any training experience preparing a person for a vocation.

Applications are accepted once a year (due the first Friday in June) and scholarships may be granted on an annual basis except for extenuating circumstances as determined by the Scholarship Committee.

Worship & Music

The purpose of the Worship and Music Committee is to enrich the overall worship program and make our services meaningful.  The committee consists of members of the congregation and the music staff of the church, including the music director, choir directors, and organist.  The committee is primarily responsible for filling the pulpit when the minister is unavailable, planning special worship services, scheduling the support aspects of worship services, and planning the musical aspect of services.
